An Archive - Windermere Jetty

About.
My work begins with place: time at the shoreline, in the archive, and with the communities around The Jetty. Here, past and present are closely woven. Photographs from the collection guided the images I made—familiar scenes of daily life, moments of encounter, and the quiet routines that endure. The restoration of heritage boats keeps echoes of the past alive, while the present continues to shape this place.

This project grows from my lifelong connection to the lake and my ongoing commitment to photographing Cumbria.

Where the photographs end, the paintings begin. Colours taken from the archive—the painted details of boats, vibrant 8mm film, wood grain, faded flags and buoys—become abstractions of environment and experience. On raw canvas, flooding techniques let paint move and settle freely. What binds all this work, both photographic and painterly, is water.
